babies and chainsaws

After almost a week of no naps my 'baby' she finally gave in and had a nap today. i must say i was getting a little worried that at 17 months we were saying good bye to nap time...not good! I guess she's been too busy putting her own babies to bed. She's definitely in love with her babies. She has a favourite one and gets very cranky when she can't find her. Isobel loves to push the stroller around, checking on them often to adjust blankets, or pitch them all together. When i cook supper she brings a chair (and a baby) and wants pieces of whatever I'm cutting which she shoves in the babies mouth. She may not be all that gentle, but she certainly has does think it's important that they get their veggies :)

Wesley has been busy planning our future country home the last few days. In the last pack of flyer's there was a husqvarna magazine. He has been carrying it around looking at it telling Ian and i all the things he's going to need for when we move to the country. So there's going to be lots of land because he needs lot's of trees to cut down with his three chain saws. He says he also needs 'protective gear' and a wood chipper because " when you work in the woods it can be VERY dangerous, you and Isobel can't help".  I had a hard time no going into a feminist rant over that one :|

So it would seem despite my best efforts so far at gender neutrality like all kids, they just like what they like...

can you spot the brown creeper? Wesley and i did in the front yard the other day!

red paint

I just had to share some pictures of our painting today. After a bit of a crazy crying/screaming week Wesley and Isobel seemed to be in a somewhat of a better mood today. Could be the warm weather or the bus trip to the library this morning, they do love the bus :) But there's one thing that always puts them in a good mood...paint!

monday monday

We had a busy day today, the weather was great so we spent most of the day outside. Wesley and Isobel were working on the 'cement' for the post of the fort in the morning. It's been pretty funny to watch Isobel copy all the stuff that Wesley does, now that she's physically capable of doing a lot of what he does. It's definitely monkey see monkey do around here. We took a walk down to the water to check out the big waves. Wesley was busy beach combing ( he found some beach glass and some feathers) and Isobel wanted to walk right into the water and swim with the ducks :)

'cement'

Our first butterfly of the year! there were tons of Red Admirals around today.

"Gu pees!"

The kids and i do a lot of art, as most of you know!) I've been reading lots about children's art, open ended art in particular. It's been nice to get back into some of the same stuff that was my favourite stuff to do as an ECE. There is so much 'craft' stuff for kids. The more I read about art the more I like the open ended stuff. This one was fun, I gave them bright color sticky notes and they stuck them all over the patio doors. Not only did it make neat patterns they also discovered the shadows, it was pretty neat.

Wesley has been loving spring and has been collecting all kinds of stuff from outside. on a trip to Lamoine Point last weekend with Auntie Jenn he brought back a huge collection of moss. He set to work making a 'forest' and has added pine cones, string and glitter! He's also been big into habitats, and he and Isobel have been making bear caves, bird nests and mouse holes out of pillows and blankets. We found a few bird nests in the neighbourhood yesterday, so we're going to keep watching them, see if we can catch a glimpse of a baby!

Isobel has decided to stop eating all the art stuff, so she's been doing lot's of gluing ( "gu pees") and makers and stickers. she loves to put stickers on the paper and then peeling them off again. She also loving her babies and has been carrying one around pretty much all day. They go outside in sand box, in her waggon, in her high chair and then in the bath tub at night :)

Isobel liked the chickens best at the petting zoo.

birds birds birds

some doves 'in love' :)

With spring here the birds are everywhere in our yard. I just had to share some of the shots of the little feathered friends who have been visiting us in the last week or so.

one of our crows, Isobel's favourite birds to watch.

oh how i love the chickadees.

a pair of blue jays, we've been hunting for their nest somewhere across the street...no luck yet.

We've had ducks every day for the past week or so, the last few days it's just the male. Wesley says they have eggs and the mom is too busy to come for a swim.
