our epic day :)

Mondays are often tough to get through and i was betting today would be one of those Mondays! Granny got on a plane back to Halifax yesterday so with one less adult the kids were a little cranky at 4am (Wesley) and 5:30am (Isobel) when they woke up for the day. But the stars aligned and the day turned out pretty good. By 8:30 there was a crew out front digging up the storm drain grates and Hydro One cherry pickers in the back cutting trees. Safe to say that took up the morning.

We did a fun experiment  with red cabbage too! We soaked red cabbage in hot water for a half an hour then mixed in baking soda, vinegar, and lemon juice. The colors changed and then when the kids mixed them back together again they changed back to purple...pretty neat stuff!!

new family member!

We got a new pet a few weeks ago and I've been trying to get a picture up but it's been a little crazy around here with Halloween and a visit from Grannie. But Flipper is fitting in well and the kids are loving him :)

trick or treat

The kids had a great Halloween, and we had a fun watching them get so excited! We carved pumpkins and then hit the road as soon as the rain let up! We did about 12 houses and they pretty much hit the trick or treat jack pot :) Wesley and Isobel had a friend trick or treating with them and together they were all pretty brave! They remembered their "trick or treats", and "thank you". Isobel preferred to say "HAPPY HALLOWEEN!"

Boooo :)

Halloween is fast becoming my favourite holiday. The kids have a blast, you get to have parties and chocolate and face paint...so much fun! We've been decorating for a while and today we had a Halloween party with some of Wesley and Isobel's friends. Here's a few pics of our pre Halloween fun, happy haunting everyone!

Firestation

Here's some pictures of our trip to the fire station last weekend. The kids love the fire trucks and they even had a pancake breakfast on the go!!

a few moments of quiet!!!

For about a half an hour the other afternoon all was quiet in my house. It doesn't happen much that my house goes more then a few moments without someone looking for something so I enjoyed  it...and had to sneak in a few pictures :)

We just moved a big table into the Wesley's room so that he could keep his growing Playmobil collection set up and play with it more easily. He's been loving it and is even letting Isobel join in every now and then.

But while Wesley was working at his Playmobil Isobel was hanging out with Fiona. She read her stories for a long while. Fiona is always patient and loves the attention. She seems to like the books about farm animals the best :)

Fall

We've been enjoying our cooler weather and have been taking in every sunny day we can. I could almost feel the snow today...burr! But i do love fall, it's my favourite time of year. the leaves, the pumpkins, thanksgiving and Halloween...what's not to love! Our trees out front have started to change and we've started decorating for Halloween.

We've also been hitting the shore close to our house whenever we can. One of the best parts of our neighbourhood, and Kingston is being able to walk to the water!

Wishing everyone a great long weekend, here's just a few things I'm thankful for :)

Early christmas :)

Wesley picked out this Christmas book from the library last week and I had to share it. It was pretty cute, and has some fun crafts in it. The mice make all their Christmas presents (instructions included) and Wesley thought this was pretty interesting. We made the snail cookies (mini cinnamon rolls) and they were so easy that all i did was read the instructions to him and make sure he had the right measurements. Perfect kids recipe that I'll be pulling out again and the kids loved them. I did cut the sugar in half and it went unnoticed ;)

Petrol

We have this beautiful black cat that comes to visit us every now and then. He'd like to move in, but Francis and Fiona aren't so sure :) The kids love him because he meows incessantly and pretty much climbs right up your leg. I love him because he has five toes...big paws are pretty darn cute!! Wesley has officially named him Petrol because he "patrols the neighbourhood".

Francis and Fiona hiss at him...through the window but don't want to come out.

"I NO LIKE DAT!"

Isobel has been opinionated about what she puts on for a while now.  Some days she goes through a few outfits before she will commit to one. I've been doing my best letting her pick what she wants, but in the end she really doesn't give you much of a choice, she just takes off what she doesn't like anyway. She has five or six t-shirts on a constant rotation and is NOT happy if they are all in the wash. She likes anything that looks like it might have been Wesley's, anything with birds on it, loves camo and is now especially fond of skeleton stuff. Here's a few pics from the last month or so :)

potty training

We have a potty sitting in the bathroom and for the past few months Isobel has been sitting on it randomly. Sometimes something happens, sometimes no. But for the last few weeks she has decided that it's time to train her babies...its pretty funny! She sits them on there, gets a book and then sits on the stool in the bathroom and reads the story to the baby. Sometimes she in there for 10 or 15 min :) i have to say potty training a baby is a lot more fun then potty training a toddler!

army run

On Sunday the kids, Jenn and I did the Army Run in Ottawa. This is our second year in a row and I'm hoping to make it a family tradition. It's hard to explain how it feels to walk with and for young vets. For me it brings home what my husband does everyday for us as a family and how lucky we have been. I think it's probably the only 5 km walk I do and shed a few tears along the way!

good bye summer

Summer is coming to a close it would seem. The air has been cool, the water in the pool is low and green, and we picked the watermelon. We still have lots of tomatoes and I'm hoping it stays just warm enough to get a few more red ones! Our cabbage and Brussels sprouts are looking pretty good and the beans are getting scarce but we're still finding a few here and there. It's always sad to say goodbye to all the yummy food, but we're already thinking about next year.

Poubelle

So Wesley came home from his second day of school with his first french word! You guessed it...POUBELLE. It sure brought me back to how funny i thought it was when i was a kid. So yeah for Wesley, because after all knowing how to say garbage is pretty darn important and who doesn't laugh when they hear someone say 'poo'.

And to no ones surprise Isobel's first french word has also become Poubelle. She ran around the house yelling it all evening with surprisingly good pronunciation :)

Praying mantis

A few weekends ago we had the pleasure of meeting a praying mantis. I don't remember ever seeing one before, and i have to say it was pretty cool! We had Auntie Jenn with us at Lemoine point and she has an eye for finding neat stuff. At first we thought it would hop away the second she opened her hands it stayed around for visit, even crawling onto Wesleys arm too!

Here are a few more pics of our adventure :)
